The Magic of Being 8

I've spent the morning reveling in the magic of my child's childhood. I stayed home from church this morning with a sinus infection and my youngest stayed with me. Feeling pretty awful, I went back into bed to rest and be near my humidifier. Since I was missing church, she sweetly decided to bring church to me and served communion. She poured some juice into little medicine cups, smooshed up some little bits of bread and brought it to me. Then, she prayed and we both drank the juice and ate the bread. Next she went over to our sleeping dog, prayed for her and fed her some of the bread too. Communion quickly turned into playing "sample lady from Walmart", of course. She set up a little table with her samples. This time, it was 2 different kinds of juices and I had to decide which one I liked more. When I picked the one I liked, she poured me a full glass. Next, She brought her tent into my room, covered it with every blanket imaginable to make it dark inside, outfitted it with all the pillows she could find and then snuggled in to watch Human Planet with me. I had intended to watch the History Channel's True Caribbean Pirates but she said it looked too violent so we switched to the Human Planets I had saved on the DVR. Of all my kids, she loves watching nature type shows with me the most. After a little while of watching fascinating survival techniques of the Arctic she was ready to move on to a snack which quickly became a tea party. She set up a table and chairs for her dolls and herself, brought out a mini pie which was perfect for the occasion, found some decaffeinated tea to make and a couple of tea cups, donned a sparkly dress and had a charming little tea party. After tea, she changed, yet again, into a pink leotard and some very worn pink tights (possible because they are worn during some part of almost every day) and made a YouTube tutorial of herself demonstrating how to do a front handspring. Since she was already in her pink leotard, next came some classical music and a ballet performance. Ready to retire to my bed again,  I brought out lots of different craft stuff and a glue gun and she set out creating what was at first a farm but later became a board game. Right now, the rest of the family has returned and  had some lunch, my oldest has taken over the crafting and is making the cutest farm animals, my son is watching netflix on the computer and my youngest, now with bright red lipstick and a black leotard layered over the pink one is still dancing to classical music.....oh wait, she's moved on to painting the face of her big Barbie head.  I hope she's enjoyed her day as much as I've enjoyed experiencing it with her.
