Connections

Life and learning are often about connections, how one thing leads to another. I find it fascinating to watch ideas flow out of one another.  I've been addicted to watching documentaries on Netflix lately. This led to watching Being Elmo, a documentary about Kevin Clash and his journey into puppetry. (It was a very touching story and I can't recommend it enough) While watching the movie we learned that he turned down a chance to work on The Dark Crystal but accepted a part in The Labyrinth. So we looked for them on Netflix and sure enough, they were there. This led to snuggling up on the couch in the evening and watching both those movies over the next couple of days. (I LOVE that we can watch movies on "school" nights) There is a scene in The Labyrinth that very closely resembles this M. C. Escher drawing.

Which led to looking up M. C. Escher drawings.

Which led to creating similar optical illusions.

Which led to more art

Inspired by The Dark Crystal and Being Elmo, Dominick started looking on youtube and playing around with ways to make puppets.

Which led to this

a puppet made from the tops of two soda bottles

While cleaning Aravis's room, we found part of an old, broken Nintendo D.S.  Dominick thought the screen looked like a mini TV. All the craft supplies were already out because Dominick was working on his puppet,

which led to this

And that is how documentaries led to Elmo, which led to M. C. Escher, which led to Barbie.
